WARNING GRAPHIC FOOTAGE: Bloemfontein assault accused cops granted bail

Two female police officers have been granted bail of R1 000 after they allegedly assaulted a complainant, in Bloemfontein.

Sergeant  Mamorena Shuping and Constable Lucia Marumo reportedly assaulted Stephanie Booysen, at Heidedal Police Station, when she sought their help after her boyfriend violated a protection order.

The incident, on 19 January, was filmed and the clip of the assault has since gone viral on social media. Police watchdog IPID arrested the duo on Thursday. They made their first court appearance in Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

“Allegedly a disagreement between the victim and the officers led to her being assaulted inside the police station. Their case has been remanded to 7 March 2025 to allow for a decision by the DPP  on whether the charge is appropriate,” said IPID spokesperson Lizzy Suping.
