Twenty bicycles were handed over to use in the fight against GBV. Western Cape Mobility MEC Isaac Sileku says the handing over of the bicycles to three community organisations that work on gender-based violence highlights the importance of mobility in enabling organisations to deliver essential support to vulnerable groups.

Twenty bicycles were handed over to use in the fight against GBV
He says the recent handover formed part of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign. The recipients of the bicycles are Child Welfare SA (Heidelberg), ACVV (Riversdale), and Vondeling NAK Primary School (Witsand).

Combating gender-based violence and child abuse
Sileku says they provide vital services to women and children in their communities. He added that the Provincial Government is geared towards combating gender-based violence and child abuse. MEC Sileku handed over the bicycles alongside the Hessequa Mayor, Grant Riddles.

The government is making progress in establishing dedicated desks at police stations in GBVF hotspots. The desks are staffed by police officers who are specifically trained to provide victim-centred assistance and support There are now 134 desks in operation and the goal is to have a GBV desk in all police stations countrywide.
