Kwa-Zulu Natal police have set the record straight on rumours surrounding the investigations into the murder of AKA.

This follows reports relating to the arrest and extradition of suspects from neighbouring country, Eswatini. Reports from media houses there (and subsequently, in South Africa) suggest that two suspects were arrested in the country on Friday, 23 February 2024. It says the suspects are being deported to South Africa, to face the charges in the murder case of Kienan ‘AKA’ Forbes and Tebello ‘Tibs’ Motsoane.

But Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, says this is not the case. Instead, the suspects being extradited are linked to a completely separate matter.

“The suspects in question will be coming back to South Africa to face a case of murder and attempted where a man, who was a passenger in a vehicle, was shot and killed in Berea on 6 March 2023. Investigation into that particular case pointed to the suspects who were traced and found to be hiding in Eswatini.”

Mkhwanazi notes that the case concerning AKA and Tibs is gained major public interest, Kwa-Zulu Natal police will communicate in developments – with the family, and thereafter the media and public.

“Investigations into that particular matter is at a sensitive stage and the police do not wish to communicate any information that may comprise the investigation process.”
