The Oscar nominations are out, and as expected, Christopher Nolan’s historical film Oppenheimer leads the race with 13 nominations in all the important categories, including for best director, best actor and best supporting actor.
Yorgos Lanthimos’s Poor Things received 11 nominations, while veteran director Martin Scorsese landed ten with his film Killers of the Flower Moon.
Greta Gerwig’s Barbie raked in eight nominations, but she was not nominated for her direction, and lead actress Margo Robbie also didn’t receive a nod for her acting.
Robbie did however receive a nomination for best producer, while Gerwig got a nod in the best adapted screenplay category.
Bradley Cooper’s Maestro received seven nominations, including one for best actor, although Cooper missed out on a nomination for best director.
The film The Zone of Interest, which deals with a Nazi commandant who tries to create a life for his family near the Auschwitz concentration camp, was nominated as best film and best foreign film. The director is Jonathan Glazer and it is based on a novel by Martin Amis.
Leonardo DiCaprio was snubbed for his performance in Killers of the Flower Moon.
The winners will be announced on March 10 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. The presenter of the evening is Jimmy Kimmel. He is presenting it for the fourth time.
