Ryan to give young Mecayla her smile back

Published on

Maya Angelou said “If you have only one smile in you, give it to the people you love.” Moneen van Emmenis put all her love into an email for her daughter Mecayla who has been struggling with her teeth her whole life.

She has a second row of teeth on the top that has not only affected how she looks – it’s affected how people have treated her, it’s knocked her self-esteem, and taken its toll on her health too. Her condition means that she can’t smell, has trouble breathing, and even experiences fainting episodes. After reading Moneen’s email Ryan gave her a call because we want to give Mecayla her smile back!

Meet the team helping Mecayla get her smile back

Our thanks to Operation Smile who kindly connected us with Dr. Jean van Lierop who volunteered his services for Mecayla. He also brought in a team of specialists including Dr. Hans Strydom and Dr. Malcolm du Preez.

Mecayla has a long journey ahead

The entire process will take up to 2 years but it’ll be worth it. Mecayla is nervous but excited about the journey ahead.
