You can expect traffic congestion in the CBD from this week, with the hosting of the 2023 World Cup Netball tournament to kick off on Friday. Some roads have already been closed for the sporting showcase, which could bring about some traffic headaches for motorists.

Traffic congestion expected

The City of Cape Town has asked motorists and commuters to be patient as traffic is likely to be severely disrupted, in parts of the City Centre, especially the area, in front of the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

Roads where congestion is likely:

On Nelson Mandela Boulevard (the N1) where it flows into Buitengracht.
The exit to Walter Sisulu Avenue (the road that passes in front of CTICC).

Free open-air concert

There will be a free open-air concert on Wednesday from 4 pm at the Fan Park, in front of the Convention Centre. You can expect to see artists such as Emo Adams, Kurt Darren, GoodLuck and Nasty C on stage, opposite the Cullinan Hotel.

Matches can be followed on a big screen at the Fan Park. There will also be stalls, food trucks, a beer garden and activities for children.

Avoid the CTICC area if you can

The City of Cape Town has asked motorists to avoid the part of the city until after the netball tournament. The traffic nightmares are likely to dissipate by Monday the 7th of August, when the tournament draws to a close.

The roads will be closed for the Netball World Cup 2023 and Fan Park at Cullinan Square from 10:00, Thursday 20 July until 05:00 on Monday 7 August 2023, unless otherwise specified. Road closures will be in place for the duration of the event and can cause traffic congestion and inconvenience. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes when travelling through the CBD.
