Kyiv bans public Independence Day celebrations amid Russian attack threats

Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, has banned public celebrations commemorating its independence from the Soviet Union – citing a heightened threat of attack from Russia. The ban follows a warning from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, wherein Moscow could attack in the run-up to tomorrow’s 31st Independence Day anniversary – which also marks half a year since Russia’s invasion.
