Langa fire victims receive blankets and stoves

Published on

A number of the Langa fire victims have received hundreds of blankets, clothes, shoes, 2-plate stoves and gas bottles as part of a donation by various organisations.

This includes the Anant and Vaneshree Singh Foundation, the International Olympic Committee, and in partnership with Smile 90.4 FM.

In April, a fire destroyed 260 structures and left about 1,200 people homeless.

The handover was facilitated by the St Cyprians Parish in Langa on Saturday 4 June. The Parish is headed by Reverend Father Siya Tshatshu.

The handover was preceded by a community meeting, with a very special guest, Anglican Archbishop Thabo Makgoba, in attendance.

Makgoba says the donation forms part of RESPOND, which is a coalition of NGO’s and churches working together to help the people who lost everything in the Langa fire.

The Archbishop says the fire victims were desperate to have something to cook on, and so the 2-plate stoves and gas bottles have been welcomed with open arms:

The Anant and Vaneshree Singh Foundation and the IOC has also donated blankets, clothes and shoes to the victims of the recent flood disaster in KwaZulu-Natal.
