Four more Western Cape Government officials have been suspended in the wake of the scandal involving former Community Safety MEC Albert Fritz.

Published on

According to News24, the 4 senior officials were working in Fritz’s ministry – the political wing separate from the department solely focused on service delivery. Meanwhile, News24 is also reporting that senior DA leaders and officials in the Western Cape Government had turned a blind eye to the allegations for months, before acting against him.

Yesterday Premier Alan Winde announced that Cultural Affairs and Sport MEC Anroux Marais would be acting as Community Safety MEC. Nine months ago, Fritz took over as the DA’s interim leader in the Western Cape after the resignation of Bonginkosi Madikizela.
At the same time, the ANC in the Western Cape has requested an urgent sitting of the Portfolio Committee on Community Safety on Fritz’s suspension. ANC MPL and leader of the opposition in the province, Cameron Dugmore, says the party has written to the chairperson of the portfolio committee, Reagen Allen, requesting that an urgent meeting be convened this week.
