While law enforcers had their hands full, with thousands flocking to beaches because of the hot weather, firefighting personnel were called out to attend to 235 wildfires across the Metro. Mayco member, JP Smith says 48 of these fires occurred in residential areas.
Meanwhile, in the Cape Winelands, firefighters are continuing to battle two fires in the mountain between Worcester, Robertson and Touwsriver. The fire which started late on Saturday evening due to lightning still has an active fire line. A spokesperson for the Cape Winelands District Municipality’s Fire Services, Jo-Anne Otto says teams are battling on the Worcester/Robertson side.
