President Cyril Ramaphosa has eased Covid-19 measures, but warning that the country is still in the third wave.
He has urged South Africans to get vaccinated to avoid a “devastating fourth wave” in December.
He has limited all gatherings to a maximum of 250 people indoors and 500 people outdoors. The curfew will be from 11pm to 4am, with restaurants having to close by 10pm. The sale of alcohol will now be permitted from Monday to Friday, between 10am and 6pm.
Funerals remain restricted to no more than 50 people. “After-tears” and night vigils are still not allowed.
President Ramaphosa says the day will come when people will be able to gather without restrictions, but this depends on how many people are vaccinated.
He says every person has a responsibility to convince others to get their vaccine.
