The Western Cape Health Department says more than 50-thousand people were vaccinated here in the province on Friday.

On Friday alone, the province vaccinated 53,290 people – more than 18-thousand more vaccinations than the previous highest total in the week.

Vaccinations opened for the 18 to 34 age-group on Friday, with the department saying the opening of this last cohort, helped breathe new life into the vaccination programme.

The period of 16 to 20 August saw the Western Cape administer more than 187-thousand doses of vaccine, making this the most vaccines administered in a single week.
