Transnet will start operating a vaccination train from today in support of government’s efforts to reach herd immunity against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Published on

The train, known as Transvaco, has state-of-the-art vaccine facilities, including ultra-low temperature vaccine fridges. It can store up to 108 000 vials of different types of vaccines. The train aims to reach, and vaccinate communities in remote parts of the country, and areas where health facilities are over-burdened.

Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town has dispatched 3 mobile vaccination stations to areas with low vaccination uptake. The service is operational in Nomzamo, Philippi and Delft and it’s hoped the service will help to curb the trend of vaccine apathy slowly creeping in.

Incentivising employees to be vaccinated against Covid-19 may be a good way to keep the workplace healthy and safe, but companies risk running afoul of South Africa’s labour laws if they’re not careful. According to Business Insider, companies in some parts of the world are paying their employees to be vaccinated. As countries look for the quickest ways in which to achieve herd immunity against Covid-19, incentives are being used to combat vaccine hesitancy. Retailer Game recently announced in-store discounts for those who can prove they’ve been vaccinated, while Wimpy is handing out free filter coffees.
