‘Hidden Pandemic’ as 1.5 million children lose caregivers to Covid-19

New research suggests that every 12 seconds, a child around the world loses a caregiver to COVID-19.

This startling finding was presented in a report published recently in The Lancet.

The study was conceptualised and produced by a multidisciplinary team of researchers at UCT and the University of Oxford.

Their results reveal that globally 1.5 million children have lost their primary caregivers to the virus, in what is being described as a “hidden pandemic.”
