The Western Cape Health Department says it will relaunch the health workers vaccination campaign, to try and ensure that ALL workers are vaccinated against Covid-19.

The province has inoculated about 70% of its health care workers. Head of Health, Dr Keith Cloete says the issue of vaccine hesitancy, among workers in the sector, will be addressed, by giving enough information, so people can make an informed decision to protect themselves.

At the same time, Cloete revealed that people in the age category, 50 years and above, are the most at risk, in this province. 68% of patients in hospital with severe covid-complications are older than 50. Up to 87% of covid-deaths, also come from this age category.

With almost 1.4 million vaccines administered, around a quarter of the Western Cape’s eligible population has received at least one vaccine dose. More than 528 000 people have been fully vaccinated.
