The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Gwede Mantashe, today announced regulations that make it illegal for filling stations to sell petrol and diesel in containers to customers.

Mantashe says the regulation is to curb the panic-buying of fuel.

The regulation makes it clear that any sale of petrol and diesel, other than to fill a vehicle, is illegal.

The regulation applies to all filling stations nationwide.

There is no end date for the regulation
