The decision to raise the electricity generation threshold for IPP’s has been widely welcomed

The decision by Government to raise the electricity generation threshold for independent power producers (IPP’s) to 100MW, has been widely welcomed.

President Cyril Ramaphosa yesterday announced that Schedule 2 of the Electricity Regulation Act will now be amended, to raise the threshold for self-generation from 1 MW to 100 MW.

One of the country’s biggest solar-energy producers, SCATEC South Africa, says the decision holds many benefits for the country and its future energy needs.

SCATEC General Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa, Jan Fourie says the industry has been calling for this move for a long time:

The Western Cape Government says the 100MW generation threshold is a big leap forward for energy resilience in the Western Cape.
