The decision by Government to raise the electricity generation threshold for independent power producers (IPP’s) to 100MW, has been widely welcomed.
President Cyril Ramaphosa yesterday announced that Schedule 2 of the Electricity Regulation Act will now be amended, to raise the threshold for self-generation from 1 MW to 100 MW.
One of the country’s biggest solar-energy producers, SCATEC South Africa, says the decision holds many benefits for the country and its future energy needs.
SCATEC General Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa, Jan Fourie says the industry has been calling for this move for a long time:
The Western Cape Government says the 100MW generation threshold is a big leap forward for energy resilience in the Western Cape.
The MEC for Finance and Economic opportunities David Maynier says the province can’t afford continued rolling Eskom blackouts:
This intervention reflects our determination to take the necessary action to achieve energy security and reduce the impact of load shedding on businesses and households across the country.https://t.co/XySPSw75Yi
