The Independent Electoral Commission says even though it would only be announced at a later stage, if the local Government elections will go ahead on 27 October, it is still ready and prepared to host the elections, as was originally planned.
The Commission this week announced the appointment of an Elections Review Panel – to be headed by the former Chief Justice, Dikgang Moseneke – to investigate and report back on if the elections should go ahead later this year.
IEC chair-person, Glen Mashinini says the panel would consult with political parties, health authorities and other role-players before making a decision on the matter.
