The minister of health dr Zweli Mkhize has announced that nearly 1 400 new covid-19 cases have been recorded over the latest 24-hour monitoring period, in the country. At the same time, 73 deaths were confirmed, taking the death toll to 53 571. Mkhize says in the past 24 hours 1 372 new infections were detected.

British researchers say there’s a much higher risk of brain blood clots from Covid-19 infection, than there is from vaccines against the disease. This follows the temporary disruption of vaccinations after reports of rare clots surfaced in the United States. At this stage, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson have both seen very rare cases, linked to their vaccines. Meanwhile, British and European regulators have stressed that the benefits of vaccination outweigh the risks.

The minister of health, dr Zweli Mkhize has announced that the electronic registration process for people over the age of 60 to receive the covid19- vaccine opens today. This forms part of preparations for the second phase of government’s vaccine rollout campaign. This as the country is expecting 30 million Pfizer doses, with the first batch expected to arrive in May.
