The City has confirmed that it has launched a R 1.4-million civil claim against Gatvol Capetonian and the Economic Freedom Fighters. The City says the two groupings are liable for the cost to repair damaged public infrastructure during violent protests. Executive Mayor Dan Plato says a summons was issued to Gatvol Capetonian on 29 March for over R 1.3-million in damages, related to a protest in the City in August 2019. The City’s legal representatives have also issued a Letter of Demand to the EFF, for damage to infrastructure in Brackenfell on 20 November 2020.
