A trail runner, who slipped and fell on Table Mountain, has been found dead. The 48-year old man had plunged at least 60 metres after slipping off the path, close to Kloof Ridge. Wilderness Search and Rescue Western Cape said an emergency helicopter assisted in the search for the runner.

Another 4 people have been shot dead in Mitchells Plain during a weekend of terror in the Cape Town suburb. The 4 were killed at close range in a drive-by shooting in Maureen Street, in Lost City. Police have issued an urgent appeal for information to help apprehend the shooters. On Friday in the area, 2 teenage boys and 3 others were wounded in a shooting.

The 2 firefighters, who were seriously injured while battling the blaze above Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, have been transferred for specialist care. The Cape Winelands municipality says there were no other reports of injuries on a day in which good progress was made in bringing the fire under control. However, the heat affected the amount of time the helicopters could stay in the air.
