Will Eskom be able to fund the 7% salary increase?

Published on

Trade Union NUMSA says the 7% salary increase, that it accepted for Eskom staff is a reasonable increase after they initially asked for a 12% salary hike. Meanwhile, NUM’s general secretary, William Mabapa says in comparison to other sectors, the wage increase for Eskom staff is a good deal.

Meanwhile: Eskom says the overall effect of the agreement on the wage bill, will cost more than R1 billion over the agreed period. Spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha says this will be difficult for Eskom to afford but they are pleased the strike is over. The 7% salary increase will be applied from the 1st of July until 30 June 2023. The housing allowance will also increase by R400 per month.
