The Western Cape Department of Social Development says it remains committed to championing the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities throughout the year.

Disability Rights Awareness Month runs from 3 November to 3 December, offering an opportunity to highlight the importance of inclusion and accessibility in all areas of society.

MEC Jaco Londt says his department will intensify efforts to encourage residents and organisations to contribute to building a more inclusive society for all.

“This year’s theme for Disability Rights Awareness Month is ‘Creating Strategic Multi-sectoral Partnerships for a Disability-Inclusive Society’. Collaboration is key. As a department, we recognise the power of partnerships with other Western Cape Government departments, spheres of government, NGOs, NPOs, the private sector, and communities, to strengthen services and extend our reach to those who need it most. Only by sharing knowledge and resources can we build accessible and inclusive spaces for all.”

The department is calling on all sectors of society to actively participate in initiatives that promote accessibility, equality, and the rights of persons with disabilities throughout the province.
