Teams SAPS in Paris

Meanwhile, South African Police Service (SAPS) members will also represent the country in Paris. They will be adding to the security complement for the Olympics. SAPS spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, says the 15 officers, comprising members of the Public Order Policing Units from all nine provinces departed on Wednesday. They are in the country, at the cost of the French government, as part of a skills-sharing opportunity concerning crowd management control.

“Our Public Order Police officers have been involved in the policing of several world class events including the BRICS summit and AGOA which took place without incident and disruptions. We are confident that this opportunity will allow members to come back to share and transfer skills and knowledge to other members which will assist us in enhancing the policing of large gatherings and crowds.”
