Published on

Amapiano queen Tyla has bagged another accolade, winning the 2025 World Artist Of The Year Award at the iHeartRadio Music Awards in Los Angeles on 17 March.

Hosted by hip-hop icon LL COOL J, is saw performances by Bad Bunny, Billie Eilish, GloRilla, Gracie Abrams, Kenny Chesney, Muni Long and Nelly, among others.

The star-studded event saw Taylor Swift bag nine awards in total, including for Artist Of The Year and Pop Album Of The Year. Swift accepted her awards via a video link.

Our very own multi-award winning icon Tyla added to her list of awards, bagging the World Artist Of The Year Award. This added to her Grammy, several MTV Awards, two BET Awards, two Billboard Awards, and a few South African Music Awards.

The Water hitmaker pipped other nominees in the category to bag the top price, including Burna Boy, Central Cee, Tems and YG Marley.

Tyla, whose real name is Tyla Laura Seethal, was also nominated in two other categories – R&B Song of the Year for Water and Dance Song of the Year for her remix of Water with Marshmello.

The pop star was not in attendance, but fans, affectionately known as Tigers, have been congratulating her online.

Even the South African Government’s official Facebook page shared an enthusiastic congratulations:

She’s been riding high since her meteoric rise to fame in 2023, and to add to her accolades recently became the first South African and solo African artist to have a song break a billion streams on Spotify.

Tyla has been jet-setting around the world. At Paris Fashion Week earlier this month, she was seated next to Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, and last week she performed in Italy at a Mercedes-Benz event.
