PRASA’s regional manager in the Western Cape Raymond Maseko has lauded the efforts of police after they arrested 2 people in Maitland, and recovered 2.4 tons of stolen railway cable.

Three scrap metal establishments were raided on Tuesday, leading to the huge amount of seized cable, which was identified as belonging to PRASA.

Those arrested are a 38-year-old manager of a scrap metal company, and a 26-year-old man from a different metal company.

The woman was detained on a charge of contravening sections of the act by failing to keep records of scrap metal items bought for seven days.

The 26-year-old man was charged for possession of suspected stolen property, as well as failure to separate metal bought, as prescribed in the act.

Three weeks ago 10 persons were arrested in a similar operation in Maitland.
