A manhunt is underway for three armed suspects who murdered two women and a man in Gugulethu on Saturday night.
Police say the suspects arrived at a shack in NY111, Kanana, apparently looking for the owner of the dwelling.
The suspects reportedly found she was not home and waited for her return.
Upon her arrival, the suspects opened fire on her and several others, fatally wounding a 41-year-old woman, a 46-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man.
Several other occupants managed to flee during the attack and escaped unharmed.
The police say preliminary information suggests that the incident may have been a targeted attack.
The MEC for Community Safety and Police Oversight, Anroux Marais, has condemned the killings.
“I am deeply saddened and outraged by yet another senseless act of violence that has claimed three lives and left families and the broader community devastated. We cannot allow this level of criminality to become the norm in our communities. Those responsible for this heinous crime must be identified, apprehended and brought before the courts to face the full might of the law.”
Marais welcomed the involvement of the SAPS Provincial Serious Violent Crime Unit in the investigation and urged anyone who may have information that could assist investigators to come forward.
