They did it again! Two Cape Town firefighters have again taken up the challenge of running the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon Challenge in their firefighting uniforms, this past weekend.
They did it again!
But this year, in a bid to raise more funds for their counterparts, Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS), they decided to do it, in their full firefighting gear.

They did it again!

At the weekend, city firefighters, Jermaine Carelse and Renaldo Duncan along with their VWS counterparts, Liam Gannon and Steve Akester finished the Two Oceans Half Marathon in 2 hours 46 minutes.

Listen to the interview:

Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith says, “It’s an incredible feat, considering the weight they were carrying, and their modest aspiration to just ‘finish’ the race before the cut-off time of 3 hours 30.”
The runners also crossed the finish line together, as a team.

The Firefighters wanted to once again, shine the spotlight on the incredibly tough job that firefighting is.
Smith added, “We are all incredibly proud of these firefighters who have not just walked the talk, but run it too.”
They also want to show the good work that the WVS does alongside their City and TMNP counterparts every year, combatting wildfires in the Mother City.
