There are 7 drop off sites for donations of non-perishable foodstuff. This is as thousands of people have been affected by the recent inclement weather conditions, which lead to many informal homes being damaged by the heavy rain. Food items were also reportedly contaminated.

The spokesperson for the City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre, Charlotte Powell says the sites where you can drop items, are the fire stations in Constantia, Goodwood, Hout Bay, Lakeside, Roeland Street, Strand and Wynberg. They are open 24-hours a day.

Meanwhile, Gift of the Givers has called on members of the public and donors to continue their support to the aid organisation. This will enable them to send their teams to all those in need, during this critical time. Their appeal follows recent heavy rains that lashed large areas of the Western Cape, bringing chaos and damage.

Calls to continue aid to the organisation

Over the weekend, their GotG-teams were deployed to areas like Khayelitsha, Langa, Gugulethu, KTC, Nyanga and Philippi. They were also assisting in Heideveld, Chris Nissan Park, Nomzamo, Lwandle, Valhalla Park and Mfuleni. Volunteers from the organisation were providing hot meals, emergency relief, and other essential support in those communities.

Inundated with SOS- and Whatsapp-messages

They will also remain in areas, for a few days after the disaster situation. A spokesperson for GotG, Ali Sablay says they have been inundated with SOS- and Whatsapp-messages from community members, asking for help.
