The Maitland Crematorium says over the past 3 weeks, it has recorded its highest number of cremations since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, reaching up to 250 per week. The demand for cremations is almost 3 times more than before the pandemic. The City of Cape Town says this has been consistently high since the beginning of the second wave. The facility will remain operating at maximum capacity for about 3 more weeks.
