The Little Optimist Sailing Academy will now give hundreds of kids, from poor backgrounds, the opportunity to try their hand at sailing.

This after a local NGO, The Little Optimist Trust, received a grant of almost R500,000 from the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The academy, founded by local surfer Greg Bertish, will teach young Capetonians all the ropes & tricks of sailing at a new sailing academy opening this week at the V&A Waterfront.

Bertish says the initiative will eventually reach up to 900 children a year between the ages of eight and 15.

He says the kids will obtain a wealth of knowledge from the academy.
