Briefing Parliament yesterday, Crisp said this is because of the recent lagging rate of vaccinations, due to a drop in demand, and also not knowing which new dangerous variants will emerge.
On the issue of vaccine hesitancy, Crisp says they are working on new communication tools to encourage people to vaccinate, including using faith-based leaders and influencers.
Earlier he said the Delta variant of the coronavirus has led to an increase in children getting infected, where the previous variants mostly affected adults. Clinicians and government officials have stressed that most children will only experience mild symptoms.
