The Hawks arrested 2 additional suspects for an alleged kidnapping on 16 May in Kraaifontein. Hawks-Spokesperson Warrant Officer Zinzi Hani says the victim was last seen by a friend, who reported that he had gone to Bellville to view a vehicle that he intended to purchase. His friend, however, never returned. The friend later received a phone call in which a ransom was demanded for the victim’s release.

Hani says, “A bank account was subsequently provided by the suspects, where the money should be deposited.”

The Hawks say the friend of the victim later received a phone call from the victim, saying that he had been kidnapped and assaulted. At that stage, the alleged kidnappers had demanded a ransom of R100,000 for the victim’s release.

“Further phone calls were made by the suspects whereby the ransom was reduced to R10 000,” added Hani.

After paying R5000 into a bank account, the alleged kidnappers demanded the other R5000 be paid over.

A multi-disciplinary intelligence team, the next day (on 17 May), arrested 33-year-old Mogamat Samuels. One of the accused had pointed out a shallow grave on the dunes between Monwabisi Beach and Macassar, where the victim’s body was discovered.

Hani says, “It was alleged that an amount of R5000.00 was deposited to that bank account and the suspects continued to demand the balance.”

Later, it was discovered that a City of Cape Town Law Enforcement vehicle, which was driven by a law enforcement officer, Thandile Khesa, was apparently used in the commission of this heinous crime. Khesa will appear in court again on 29 October, alongside Samuels. They both remain in custody until.

Two have appeared in court already, another two tomorrow

Hani says the two who were arrested this morning will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (08 October 2025). It will be their first court appearance. This morning’s multi-disciplinary intelligence team, who carried out the operation, comprised the Hawks, Provincial Operational Command Centre Combat Team and City of Cape Town SSIMS. Two suspects, aged 33 and 37 years of age, were detained on charges of murder.
