The Garden Route municipality, the DA as well as Afri-Forum are challenging the government’s decision to close beaches in the Western Cape district. President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that beaches and public parks in the Eastern Cape, as well as to the Garden Route district in the Western Cape, will be closed for the duration of the festive season from the 16 December to 3 January. The lobby-group says limiting access to beaches, which were public property, amounted to the restriction of a basic human right.
