The department of health says 1 742 new covid-19 related cases have been reported in the country, in the latest 24-hour monitoring period. Active cases in the country now stands on 65 137. Most of the active cases are in KwaZulu-Natal, followed by die Western Cape and the Free State. Another 396 deaths have been recorded with the death toll now at 46 869. The recovery rate in the country remains at 92%.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has revealed Health Minister dr Zweli Mkhize has instructed scientists to come up with a plan to vaccinate the population in the shortest possible time following delays caused by problems with the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine. On Sunday, the Department of Health put its plans to use the vaccine temporarily on hold. Ramaphosa says in the light of the new developments, he has tasked scientists to develop proposals on how the country can effectively vaccinate the population in the shortest possible time.

The City’s Directorate of Waste says it’s currently experiencing a delay in repairs to its waste-collection vehicles, which could affect the timeous collection of refuse. Mayco member, Xanthea Limberg, says this has lead to delays in the collection of formal waste, as well as the collection of wheelie bins and area cleansing services across the City.
