The department of health has announced that 1 600 new Covid-19 cases have been reported in the country, over the latest 24-hour monitoring period. At the same time, 75 deaths were recorded taking the death toll to 53 498. Of the 75 newly recorded fatalities, 2 people were from the Western Cape.
