Teenager drowns at Fish Hoek beach

Another family is in mourning after a teenage boy sadly drowned at Fish Hoek beach over the weekend.

 

Police have opened an inquest docket after the15-year-old drowned at Fish Hoek Beach on Saturday.

 

The teenager had reportedly dived off rocks into the surf before being pulled from the water by lifeguards. Efforts to resuscitate him however failed.

 

The NSRI says the CoCT (City of Cape Town) water rescue network was alerted to reports from lifeguards and Fish Hoek Lifesaving lifeguards performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) efforts on the teenager that they had rescued from the water at Fish Hoek Beach, just before 4pm Saturday afternoon.

 

The SA Police Services, WC Government Health EMS, CMR (Cape Medical Response) and CoCT Law Enforcement also esponded.

 

On arrival on the scene paramedics assisted the lifeguards with CPR efforts.

 

The NSRI’s Craig Lambinon says after extensive CPR efforts were exhausted sadly the teenager was declared deceased.

 

His body was taken into the care of Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.

 

Lambinon has extended condolences to the family.
