Suspect arrested in e-hailing assault incident in Table View

Published on

Police have taken a man into custody, in connection with the alleged assault of two women in the Table View area.

Captain Frederick Van Wyk says a 39-year-old man was arrested in Brooklyn, Milnerton, on Wednesday. The suspect is facing a charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

This is a day after the case was opened at Table View Saps.

The suspect is accused of stabbing two women whom he was transporting to Du Noon on 4 May.  The incident apparently arose from an argument between the driver and the women.

One of the two women wounded in the alleged incident, Bonile Daniso, publically shared her experience on Instagram. In the post, Daniso shares a side profile of the alleged perpetrator and other sensitive images apparently stemming from the incident.

Speaking to eNCA, Daniso says they started recording the driver, when they realised he was not headed to their destination.

“…and I started to call the police, that’s when the incident transpired. We tried pulling him, and that’s when the fight started, and the driver stopped the car. We all ran. That’s when he found a way to run after us and stab us.”

Bolt South Africa has blocked the driver and says it will cooperate with police in their investigation.

The Western Cape E-Hailing Association says it held a meeting on Thursday, in a bid to get clarity on the matter. Chairperson, Siyabonga Hlabisa says he’s heard different stories on what led to the incident.

“We are trying to, on our side as an association, to do more investigation. We just received the contact of the ladies and also now we have the contact details of the driver – and we are trying to put the story together.”

The suspect is expected in the Cape Town Magistrates Court on Friday.
