South Africa’s Covid-19 vaccine roll-out has hit a speed-bump. Health Minister dr Zweli Mkhize announced last night that the distribution of the AstraZeneca vaccine has been put on hold temporarily, until scientists can get clear clinical effiacy information. This after studies found the vaccine, of which South Africa has already received 1 million doses, has shown minimal protection against mild to moderate covid-19 disease, from the new variant first discovered in the country. There’s however no evidence that the vaccine won’t prevent severe illness, caused by the variant.
