South Africa has a well-developed Covid-19 Resurgence Plan in place, which will help Government and provinces properly manage a second wave of covid-19 infections.
This, according to infectious diseases expert, Professor Salim Abdool Karim, who this week participated in a WHO-Africa online press briefing.
He says the plan was developed toward the end of the first wave of covid-19 infections.
Karim says the plan comprises three strategies, to help Government effectively fight a second surge in infections.
Karim says up to 50% of all African countries can expect to see a second wave of covid-19 infections, in the next 2 to 3 months.
He says that research has shown that 49% of first world countries, are now dealing with a second wave, which has shown to be much stronger than their first wave of infections.
He says that super-spreader events are currently one of Government’s main concerns.
