From 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day, we are reminded of the epidemic proportions of one of our greatest community ills, namely violence against women and children.
Clive Ridgway, Programme Director suggests that “Knowing we can only change that of which we are conscious, Smile 90.4FM will be dedicating a great deal of our programming time to share with our listeners’ information that matters in making our community a healthier, safer and happier place for all, especially the most vulnerable”.
As a leading Cape Town broadcaster, the 16 Days of Activism Campaign gives Smile 90.4FM a unique opportunity to engage openly with our community on this subject.
Smile 90.4FM News will be leading the way with dedicated stories in all bulletins whilst Smile Breakfast’s Bobby Brown and Lindy Hibbard will be highlighting events and initiatives relating to the campaign in their ‘World You’re Waking Up To’ feature every morning.
Workday presenters Smile Drive’s Maurice Carpede and Bailey Schneider as well as Eloise Pretorius and Benito Vergotine who will be committing regular features to the campaign.
Finally, our daily #16Days campaign will culminate with Smile Love Songs’ Love Doctor, Mehboob Bawa, who will be dedicating his entire show for the duration of the campaign to activism issues. Mehboob will be hosting experts, psychologists, educationists, councillors and people affected by domestic violence on his show with the aim of empowering victims of abuse to live their best life.
