Published on

President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that government has decided to amend Schedule 2 of the Electricity Act to raise the threshold for self-generation of electricity from 1 MW to 100 MW.

Ramaphosa says the reform will unlock significant investment in new generation capacity in the short and medium term.

Companies can build own generation facilities to supply energy needs.

It will increase the availability of supply of energy, and reduce the burden on Eskom.
