Mitchells Plain detectives have arrested three more men in connection with the murder of a Tafelsig woman last week.

Police initially arrested three suspects, and they made a brief appearance in court on Thursday. Community activists were outside the court, demanding justice for the 29-year-old victim, Clare Swartz.

Western Cape police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, confirmed that six men are now behind bars:

“Mitchells Plain detectives pursued all the available information at their disposal and conducted continuous tracing operations in a bid to detain those responsible for the murder. We can confirm that six males have since been detained for murder. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident continues.”

Swartz’s body was found dumped in bushes in the Wolfgat Nature Reserve, not far from where she and her boyfriend were attacked. She was stabbed multiple times in the neck

The victims were walking on Meagan Street in the early hours of the morning when they were accosted by the suspects.

The boyfriend managed to run away after he was stabbed and was later found in the hospital.

Swartz’s father, Francois Swartz, told The Daily Voice that the pair had wanted to purchase drugs.

Swartz also told the publication he had not seen his daughter, who was also the mother of a young child, for two months, as she was living with her boyfriend at his mother’s home.

All six suspects are expected to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
