Even though both the Sinovac and Astra-Zeneca vaccines are registered for use in the country the vaccines would, for now, not be rolled out in South Africa.
According to the Health Department’s deputy-director general, Dr. Nicholas Crisp challenges with availability would also see the vaccines not used locally, for the time-being.
Crisp says talks with manufacturers are on-going to, in future, use their vaccines in the country’s vaccination programme.
