Sharlto Copley on Smile Breakfast

Published on

South African Hollywood star Sharlto Copley is in Cape Town promoting his new movie Beast. In the thriller he stars as Martin Battles – a game ranger and wildlife biologist. He acted alongside Idris Elba who took on the role of Dr. Nate Daniels who visits Battles with his family in South Africa. On the trip the two find themselves in a fight for their lives against a lion that starts stalking them. Sharlto visited Smile Breakfast for a chat and the team was quite curious how he got it right to wrestle with lions on set:

The film is an action packed ride that keeps the audience on the edge of their seat. Sharlto explained that the camera work had a lot to do with how the director Baltasar Kormákur gets you right in the action:

One role that many South Africans will remember is his character Agent Kruger in the 2013 sci-fi action film Elysium. You will particularly remember this scene when he sings an Afrikaans nursery rhyme. Please be advised that this video has strong language:

Sharlto told the team just how it happens that Afrikaans gets inserted into Hollywood blockbusters:
