The South African National Parks (SANParks) has increased visibility in the Deer Park area of Table Mountain National Park following two separate incidents reported within the past week.
According to SANParks, the decision follows incidents on 8 July and 13 July 2026, with the organisation working alongside the South African Police Service (SAPS) as investigations continue.
In the first incident, SANParks said a preliminary investigation, together with information obtained from SAPS, found that the victim sustained cut wounds to his arm and twisted his ankle because of a struggle during the attack.
The organisation says it is monitoring developments in the case while providing the necessary support to SAPS.

The second incident, which occurred on 13 July at the Deer Park Wash Houses, involved a displaced individual. Preliminary information indicates that the victim and the two suspects are believed to know each other and regularly frequent the area.
SANParks says its officials located the victim at his shelter shortly after the incident and provided immediate humanitarian assistance.
“SANParks will continue to provide feasible assistance while supporting the ongoing SAPS investigations,” added JP Louw, SANParks Head of Communications and Spokesperson
Meanwhile, FF Plus councillor, Emre Uygun, took to social media, saying these violent incidents highlight the ongoing threat faced by hikers and visitors to one of South Africa’s most iconic landmarks.
Uygun has urged all hikers, trail runners and mountain bikers to remain vigilant, avoid hiking alone where possible, stay on popular routes, and report any suspicious activity immediately.
