Rugby, the City will again be as busy as a beehive this Saturday

The City will again be as busy as a beehive this Saturday. This is, as the Springboks will square up against their counterparts from Australia at DHL Stadium. This is the first rugby test match between the sides in the Mother City since 2014. The green carpet is being rolled out for this epic clash of the home team versus their foes from Down Under.

Alderman JP Smith says, “We know that game days mean heavy traffic and congestion on our roads, especially with around 55,000 spectators expected at DHL Stadium.”

The Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says they are rolling out an expanded free Park & Ride service for this Saturday, 23 August 2025. He says this is because the Mother City is hosting the four-time Rugby World Cup champions, the Springboks, in their Castle Lager Rugby Championship game against Australia at the Stadium. Alderman Smith says the gates at the stadium will open at midday.

“We encourage everyone to use the Park-and-Ride system and dedicated shuttle services,” added JP Smith.

At the same time, he has reminded ticket holders to the game that the free MyCiTi shuttle will begin operating from 11:30 am. You will find the shuttles at the Bellville Velodrome, Century City, the CTICC, Thibault Square and the Civic Centre. You are also reminded that return services for the shuttles will run until 21:30.

Match day guide:

Smith says the Park-and-Ride system and dedicated shuttle services offer a convenient, reliable and traffic-beating way to enjoy the game without the stress of driving. These added services, which expand transport options, help to reduce congestion, as well as to get fans safely to the stadium. The event organisers are also working with the City to ensure that there are enough Safety and Security personnel out and about. This will help to ensure that people are able to get to the stadium, enjoy the game and return home safely.

Those attending the games are once again reminded that several roads in the Precinct will be closed. Some will be closed the night before, and others, hours before the rugby game.
