2019 saw Smile 90.4FM introduce their Smile-in-Action initiative, which aims to give back to more people, more often.

The first Smile-in-Action initiative focused on Reach for a Dream, a Foundation that has brought hope, joy and healing to South African children and their families, by offering children a magical moment to regain their childhood that is being lost to life-threating illnesses.

Smile-in-Action raised over R300 000 in support of Reach for a Dream’s 2019 Camp Sunshine – these funds enabled 95 children to attend the camp as well as Family Focus Camps.

On Friday, 15 March, Reach for a Dream took 22 eager children from Red Cross Tygerberg and Groote Schuur Hospitals for a fun filled weekend of adventure.

On arrival, each child was treated to activities ranging from hula hooping, soccer games, charades and a build a bear handover ceremony compliments of Toy Kingdom. The heart ceremony was pure magic! With each child and volunteer being given a soft heart and bear of their very own.

Later on in the evening, the talent show took place which consisted of artist, singers and dancers. Each child showcased their drawings, lovely voices or epic dance moves!

Sunday morning saw the kids taking part in Kids Kicking Cancer – activities which consisted of breathing exercises with the children in order to teach them how to breathe in peace and breathe out all negativity.

At the end of the camp, not one child wanted to leave as they were all having so much fun “This is so heartwarming to hear as it reiterates what Camp Sunshine is all about” said Heidi Rowley, Western Cape Branch Manager for Reach for a Dream.
