R3.3 million in drugs, on-route to Cape Town, confiscated in Beaufort West

The Western Cape Police have announced that it has confiscated more than R3 million worth of drugs during an operation in Beaufort West. The drugs were destined for Cape Town.

 

The officer of the provincial police commissioner said on Friday morning, 27 February, members of the Central Karoo Flying Squad and K-9 units conducted a vehicle checkpoint at the Weighbridge on the N1 road near Beaufort West.

 

A truck from Gauteng, on its way to Cape Town, was stopped for a routine search.

 

During the search of the truck the following was discovered in the trailer:

 

• 3,362kg of tik
• 22 000 mandrax tablets
• 131,5kg higher grade outdoor dagga

 

 

The estimated street value of the consignment is R3 328 700.

 

The truck driver and his passenger, both foreign nationals, aged 38 and 41 respectively, were arrested and charged with dealing in drugs.

 

Both suspects are due to appear in the Beaufort West Magistrates’ court on Monday, 2 March.

Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Thembisile Patekile, commended the members for the recovery of the drugs as well as ensuring the perpetrators were arrested.
