The Port of Cape Town has been recognised as Africa’s Leading Cruise Port at the World Travel Awards, held in Kenya this past Friday.
The win bodes well for the 2024/25 cruise season with 88 vessel visits and 130,000 passengers expected for the upcoming season.
With another record-breaking season predicted, the industry is still celebrating the many milestones achieved this year including a historical moment with the arrivals of the two Cunard Queens; Queen Victoria and Queen Mary 2 who simultaneously graced the Port of Cape Town.

The MMC for Economic Growth James Vos says he is delighted at yet another accolade.
He says each ship visit injects R100 million into the local economy, boosting tourism and job creation.
It’s the second year in a row that the Port of Cape Town, inclusive of the Cruise Terminal Building, has bagged the top African cruise port award.
The other finalists up for the title this year were the Port of Dar es Salaam, in Tanzania, the Port of Durban, the Port of Mombasa, in Kenya and the Port of Zanzibar.
The V&A Waterfront, which manages the Cape Town Cruise Terminal, says the journey towards growing its cruise business and becoming one of the leading ports in the world, continues.
The V&A Waterfront has thanked its partners, the Western Cape Government, City of Cape Town, Transnet National Ports Authority, and the South African Marine Safety Association and Cruise Cape Town powered by Wesgro, for the “continued co-operation and support in making the Cruise Tourism Business in South Africa a success.”
